Doesn't mean anything for Guild Wars, though. Sony probably wants to cash in on Tabula Rasa.

yeah i know and hopefully ncsoft will never ask anet to do a gw on console... but still kinda huge and in effort of support for NCsoft i just wanted to post an interesting business deal. that could actually kinda revolutionize console gamin in a sense . I used to play mine but now only when the gf wants to run a race on MOST WANTED or something ...or God of War 2. RPGs on the console are bout half dead when compared to an online community , one reason i quit playin my consoles, so its nice to know atleast SONY is lookin forward and tryin to think outside the box and think ahead and even outsource to a company thats being successful as NCsoft is at this time.

Oh, the irony.

Remember what happened when Sony Online Entertainment bought out Star Wars Galaxies? Vanguard: Saga of Heroes?

Exactly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This better not effect any future Guild Wars products (I'm looking at you GW2). If GW2 comes out on the PS3 (4?) I will no longer buy it. I think I'm starting to feel sick...

Seems like an odd choice for NC Soft, since Sony's online system is a mess. Going with Microsoft, hell, even Nintendo would have made much more sense.

Personally though, I wouldn't have a problem if Guild Wars was released on consoles, assuming it didn't effect the PC version of the game. Too many PC gamers have an elitist attitude were they see console gamers as beneath them, that's something that really annoys me.

I don't exactly see how you can think this would "revolutionise" console gaming either. There have been MMO's on consoles for years, this is nothing new, or groundbreaking.

Heh. This was mentioned during Sony's E3 Conference today. I about jumped out of my clothes when I heard it. (Bad analogy. :P) The first thing I thought was Guild Wars 2 on PS3. Once Sony (Again, assuming they do. :P) gets its act together (home launched and running) and a decent bit of games, a lower price (the price cut still wasnt enough), then folks will latch onto it. As of right now, the PS3 doesn't have a mmorpg on it and frankly it could use one. Guild Wars 2 would be perfect.

I suppose I could continue rambling aimlessly about what ifs. Only time will tell what Sony plans to do with NcSoft. If they do plan on a GW for Ps3, we should hear something within a year. (or less)

*waits patiently*

Good deal for both sides really. NCSoft gets to teach Sony how to make MMOs and NcSoft can now possibly start putting their products on consoles if they wish. Everyone makes money here I think

That's an unreasonable assumption. I don't know who the "elitist" PC gamers you're talking about are, but my concern about a game having both a console and a PC version is that it seems to inevitably result in the interface, controls, and in some cases the game play of the PC version being drastically dumbed down to accommodate the limits of a console controller. This particular phenomenon has killed many promising games and game series in the past, I'd hate to see it happen to GW.

i think its a bit much and too soon to say they would do any current games , however i dont believe it would be Gw2 by anymeans ..probably all new games all together . but as someone already stated its a nice deal for both sides to learn from one another and make some dough.

If thay make a GW for consoles, they are shooting themselves in the foot. I would not even think about purchasing anymore NC products.

I disagree , anet gets to make online games for the weakest and crappiest next gen console ? Great? Or not. Serioursly 360 has sold nearly 4x the PS3 world wide and the WII coming in at roughly 3x . PS3 also has poor online stuff and microsoft dominates it . Sony's PSP is great thou but a MMO wouldnt work on it at all and if they brought it out itd be just crap .

That's pretty much what I was talking about. PC gamers are always quick to blame consoles for simplified games. Take Oblivion for example, yes it was pretty drastically simplified, but that was an attempt to appeal to a broader audience. Morrowind was a popular game, on both the PC and consoles, but one of the biggest complaints it received, is that a lot of people found it difficult to follow and navigate around in. Thus, Oblivion simplified a lot of features, and included mechanics to hold the players hand, such as the compass and fast travel.

Ditto for Deus Ex. None of that was due to the game being released on consoles, after all Morrowind was released virtually untouched on the Xbox and was one of the best selling games on the system, they had no need to simplify the game for consoles, it was purely to appeal to a bigger audience.

PC gamers just seem to enjoy having something to blame when a game doesn't meat their expectations. I'm sure anyone who's studied marketing can back me up.

Yes, and they all sucked. GW on a console would blow so badly...ugh, not even gonna go there. I hope this is only for Tabula Rosa or whatever it's called.

Phantasy Star: Online was pretty cool.

That was pretty much an online Diablo, though. Not really an MMORPG - but still totally kickass.

Good point but not everyone plays games on the pc ? Nothing wrong with spreading GW to consoles for those who prefer them. I don't prefer a console but many others do that may like GW on their console.

Taken from Gamespot summary of PS E3 at:

Quote:
[12:19] NCsoft is "joining the PlayStation camp."

[12:20] Under the agreement, NCsoft will make a series of PS3-exclusive MMORPGs.
I'm pretty happy with this announcement, and look forward to seeing GW2 on the PC and PS3. It's only a lot of speculation at this point, but it does seem like it could happen.

So many people are caught up in the xbox 360 and Wii hype. Despite the high price the PS3 is still the best gaming console out there. The Wii got boring for me in about 1 hour, and I'll never get over how much I hate the Xbox controllers, and how much Microsoft rushes out unfinished consoles. That leaves the PS3 as the only console I'm willing to drop money on (once I save some money and the price comes down). To play GW2 on the PC I'd probably need to do some heavy upgrading or buy a new one so it might be more affordable to me to buy a PS3. I'm just hoping for mouse and keyboard support! If I had to play GW2 with my thumbs I'd probably shoot myself.
